Elk Grove Unified School District is hosting Youth Mental Health First Aid trainings for interested community members. One is on September 15 and the other is on October 13.
Youth Mental Health First Aid is an eight-hour public education program that introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and most importantly teaches individuals how to help a youth in crisis or one experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge.
Mental Health First Aid uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and provide initial help; and connect young people to professional, peer, social, and self-help care.
The training is FREE and available to any community member interacting with Elk Grove youth.
Participants must complete all eight hours of training to receive their three-year certification.
Space is limited, so please register early. You can register for the September 15 training here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/youth-mental-health-first-aid-community-training-tickets-49969851170
