Elk Grove Unified School District is hosting a Youth Mental Health First Aid training for interested community members. Youth Mental Health First Aid is an eight-hour public education program that introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and most importantly teaches individuals how to help a youth in crisis or one experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. The Alpha Academy is dedicated to mentoring the young Black men of the Sacramento area. The Academy meets from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the third Saturday of the month from September to May at the Cosumnes River College Library in Room L-111. On March 19, we’ll hold special mock interview sessions for interested students. These short interviews will give students the opportunity to practice their interviewing skills and receive feedback about their interviews. They’ll also be able to provide other students with feedback. The mock interviews will be held at Laguna Creek High School’s Career Center, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Because space is limited, students who wish to have a mock interview need to pre-register. (Parents are welcome to attend, but don’t need to register.) "College: Making It Happen" is intended primarily for 6th through 9th grade students and their families, and provides practical and easy-to-understand information on how to prepare academically and financially for college. It promotes academic achievement and accessibility, educational planning, and parental involvement. This event reaffirms the message that college preparation begins many years before the final year in high school, and that college planning is a family affair. Space is limited.
